Matthew West, M.D., is a retina surgeon with Retina Specialists of Alabama and a volunteer clinical instructor at the Callahan Eye Foundation Hospital of the University of Alabama Birmingham.
Prior to completing a surgical retina fellowship with Retina Specialists of Alabama, Dr. West completed a fellowship at Bascom Palmer, the number one ranked eye hospital in the country, focusing on inflammation and vitreoretinal diseases, particularly, macular degeneration.
He received an undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia and a Medical Degree from the Medical College of Georgia. He then went on to complete an ophthalmology residency at Georgetown University in Washington D.C.
Dr. West is Board Certified with the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is a member of the American Society of Retina Specialists and the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and daughters and being in the great outdoors.
