Dr. Matthew Oltmanns is a board-certified ophthalmologist and retina specialist with over two decades of experience in eye care. He began his medical career by earning his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 2000. He then went on to receive his medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School in 2006, graduating with honors and earning induction into the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honor Medical Society for academic excellence.
Dr. Oltmanns completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Florida, where he developed a strong foundation in both medical and surgical eye care. He then pursued advanced subspecialty training in vitreoretinal diseases and surgery through the combined Retina Fellowship Program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and Retina Specialists of Alabama.
Dr. Oltmanns currently serves as the Fellowship Program Director for the RSA–UAB Retina Fellowship, where he plays an active role in mentoring and training the next generation of retina specialists.
Throughout his career, Dr. Oltmanns has remained committed to advancing the field of ophthalmology. Alongside his colleagues, he has co-authored numerous peer-reviewed articles in respected medical journals, contributing to clinical research and innovation in retinal disease management.
He is dedicated to providing compassionate, evidence-based care and takes pride in offering the most current diagnostic tools and surgical treatments to help patients preserve and restore their vision.
